Conditions Managed by MAS Devices
MAS devices primarily target snoring and mild obstructive sleep apnoea.
- Snoring — Snoring occurs when the flow of air through the mouth and nose is partially blocked, creating vibrations in the throat. This can disturb sleep for both the patient and their partner, which can lead to interrupted rest and a less consistent sleep cycle.
- Obstructive Sleep Apnoea — Mild sleep apnoea involves brief pauses in breathing during sleep, which may not always be noticeable. However, it can contribute to daytime tiredness, reduced focus and decreased overall alertness.
How Does a MAS Work?
A MAS works by moving the lower jaw forward, which helps keep the airway open and allows air to flow more freely. This forward positioning reduces the likelihood of soft tissue collapsing at the back of the throat, which supports smoother breathing throughout the night. The 3DSleep Advanced Nylon MAS is designed to maintain consistent jaw positioning while accommodating natural mouth and jaw movements.
We customise devices for each patient’s teeth to help ensure a secure and stable fit. It can also be used alongside routine dental care without interfering with normal oral hygiene practices. Over time, consistent use of a MAS may support more regular sleep patterns and provide a convenient, non-invasive option for managing snoring and mild sleep apnoea.
At Forster Tuncurry Dental & Implants, we help patients explore solutions for snoring and mild sleep apnoea. One effective option is a mandibular advancement splint (MAS). Our dental clinic in Forster provides the 3DSleep® Advanced Nylon MAS, designed to improve breathing during sleep and support overall oral health.
