Root Canal Treatment

An infected tooth can be excruciating and significantly affect your quality of life and ability to perform daily activities. Temperature sensitivity, pain when chewing, and facial swelling are all telltale signs of a tooth infection. It’s essential to seek treatment for an infected tooth as it will not resolve on its own and could spread to neighbouring teeth and other critical areas of the body.

Root canal treatment quickly alleviates any pain caused by the infection, allows us to remove the infected tissue that’s inside your tooth and protects your tooth’s natural structure, saving it from extraction.

Why Is It Important to Treat a Tooth Infection Promptly?

Don’t hesitate to call Forster Tuncurry Dental & Implants if you or a loved one experiences symptoms of a tooth infection. Prompt treatment of an infected tooth provides several benefits for patients.

Root canal treatment alleviates your tooth infection and keeps it from spreading to other teeth or critical areas of your body.

Saves Tooth Structure
Root canal treatment saves your natural tooth from the need for extraction and tooth replacement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Root canal treatment has an undeserved reputation for being painful, but modern techniques and anaesthetics make the procedure surprisingly comfortable.

At Forster Tuncurry Dental & Implants, Dr Kenny uses advanced methods and takes great care to ensure patients experience minimal discomfort throughout their treatment.

The Surprising Truth about Root Canal Treatment

The truth is that root canal therapy actually relieves pain rather than causing it. The severe toothache you experience before treatment comes from infected or inflamed pulp inside your tooth. The procedure removes this source of pain, providing significant relief.

What to expect during treatment:

  • Complete numbing with local anaesthetic before we begin
  • You'll feel pressure but no sharp pain during the procedure
  • Additional anaesthetic is available if needed
  • Most patients report feeling comfortable throughout treatment
  • The procedure is similar in sensation to having a large filling

Managing post-treatment discomfort:

  • Mild soreness for a few days is normal as tissues heal
  • Over-the-counter pain relievers effectively manage any discomfort
  • Cold compresses can reduce swelling if it occurs
  • Avoid chewing on the treated tooth until restoration is complete

Your Comfort Is Our Priority

Dr Kenny's gentle approach and expertise ensure your comfort is prioritised. Many patients are surprised by how straightforward and painless their root canal experience is at our Forster dental clinic. We'll talk about pain management options beforehand and give you detailed aftercare instructions.

Remember that delaying root canal treatment often leads to increased pain and more complex procedures. Early intervention typically results in easier treatment and faster recovery, making prompt care the best choice for your comfort.

When Do We Recommend a Root Canal?

Our dentists may suggest root canal treatment if your tooth is experiencing any of these signs or symptoms:

  • Darkening or discolouration
  • Tenderness when biting or chewing foods
  • A white pimple or bump on the gums around the infected tooth

What Happens During Root Canal Treatment in Forster Tuncurry?

During a root canal, we start by thoroughly numbing the area around the tooth to alleviate any pain caused by the tooth infection and ensure you don’t feel anything throughout your procedure.

Next, we carefully access the inner canals of your tooth, removing any infected or diseased tissue. Once we ensure your tooth is infection-free, we’ll fill the canal with a material called gutta-percha that seals the canal and helps prevent reinfection.

Finally, we’ll seal the tooth temporarily until it has time to heal. Once it’s healed, you’ll return to our Forster dental clinic to have the tooth strengthened with a permanent filling or dental crown. This ensures your tooth is strong and can provide all the chewing function you had before your tooth infection.
